ANTIQUE Miniature FRENCH PINK MILK GLASS OIL LAMP

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Antique miniature oil night lamp standing 8.25" tall to the top of the chimney. The rounded milk-glass font measures approximately 4" in diameter across the shoulder and rises from a molded circular pedestal base. The integrated shade and chimney has a 1.5" base fitter mounted within a pierced brass gallery above the burner collar. The font and chimney are formed from white milk glass with graduated pink shading and hand-painted floral decoration. The painted sprays feature daisy-form flowers, small blue blossoms, slender stems and green leaves. The softly colored glass, compact proportions and coordinated floral decoration reflect the ornamental bedroom and nursery lamps produced during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The brass burner is fitted with a 1/2" flat cotton wick. The wick raiser remains functional, properly advancing and retracting the wick. The wick-raiser knob bears the CROWN ~ A.D.R. & CO. mark, identifying a burner manufactured by the French firm A. Delamarre, R. Robert & Cie. of Paris. CROWN served as the company’s burner model or trade designation. Burners of this type were produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, approximately 1870–1910. Miniature oil lamps of this form were commonly described as night lamps and provided subdued illumination in bedrooms, nurseries, sickrooms and hallways before electric lighting became widespread. The small font held enough fuel for limited evening or overnight use, while the flared glass shade softened and diffused the flame. The French burner, hand-painted milk glass and integrated shade-and-chimney construction support a late 19th- to early 20th-century date. Milk glass was especially fashionable for lamps and ornamental household glass during the fin-de-siècle period. CONDITION REPORT > The lamp remains substantially complete with the font, burner, pierced gallery, functional wick raiser, 1/2" flat cotton wick and integrated shade and chimney. Chipping around both the upper rim and lower fitter of the chimney results in a degree of roughness without being overt.
