AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A cast silver patina metal tussie-mussie or posy holder measuring 7.5" long with a 3.5" diameter scalloped floral border and an approximate weight of 4 ounces. The substantial tapered form features a fluted bouquet cone, raised rope-style edging, an ornate floral relief grip and an integral finger ring. Designed to carry a small nosegay or hand-tied bouquet, the ring allowed the holder to remain securely suspended from a finger while the flowers were carried. The flared upper collar supported the blossoms, while damp moss placed within the cone helped keep cut stems fresh and protected clothing from moisture. Posy holders became fashionable accessories during the Victorian period and were associated with formal dress, courtship, weddings and the symbolic “language of flowers.” This example appears to be a later Victorian Revival interpretation rather than a 19th-century precious-metal example. No silver fineness or maker marks are visible. The darkened silver patina emphasizes the floral relief and gives the piece an aged presentation. Moss or floral material remains within the bouquet cup.
