NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Despite extensive use, as noted in the condition report below, a unique vintage American Teach N Fun Toys Company child’s desk and attached bench measuring approximately 18" wide × 26" long × 22" tall overall. The desk surface measures approximately 18" wide × 12" deep, while the seat stands approximately 12½" from the floor. Constructed from stained wood with a fiberboard writing panel, the desk features a reversible framed top with a dark chalkboard surface on one side and a light drawing surface on the reverse. The top lifts to reveal an interior storage compartment with a perforated pegboard bottom, originally intended for chalk, crayons, paper, and other school supplies. The desk is supported by trestle style ends joined by a long stretcher, with an attached paddle shaped bench extending from the side. The compact schoolroom form was designed for playrooms, nurseries, Sunday schools, and early home learning activities. American Teach N Fun Toys was a mid twentieth century American brand associated with the American Toy & Furniture Company, Inc. The company produced a broad selection of educational toys, child sized furniture, activity sets, doll furnishings, tool chests, and wooden playthings, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s. The Teach N Fun name reflected the postwar emphasis on combining imaginative play with practical learning and creative activity. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered ~ Perhaps in need of some tightening to screws and joints and general cleaning ~ The chalkboard and reverse writing surface exhibit extensive chalk residue, crayon markings, scratches, discoloration, and wear from prolonged use. The wood shows scattered abrasions, finish loss, stains, edge wear, and small losses. Colored chalk remains within the storage compartment.
