NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Despite the dust, a charming vintage C.L. Lane Co. child’s barrel back rocking chair measuring approximately 22" tall × 16" wide overall, with rockers measuring approximately 21" long. The distinctive rounded body was constructed in the manner of traditional wooden cooperage, with a curved stave formed back and sides secured by horizontal wooden binding bands. The upper back incorporates two circular holes for carrying or moving, while the lower structure features turned legs, shaped rockers, and a round upholstered seat cushion. Likely in need of recovering or removal and washing, if possible, the cushion is now covered in a vintage inspired collage fabric featuring colorful historical labels. The C.L. Lane Company of East Swanzey, New Hampshire, was associated with wooden pails, buckets, and related woodenware. That cooperage background is strongly reflected in this unusual novelty chair, which transforms the familiar form of a wooden bucket or firkin into a sturdy child sized rocker. Comparable examples are generally dated from the 1930s into the mid twentieth century and appeal to collectors of American folk furniture, New England woodenware, primitive country furnishings, and unusual children’s seating. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, stored away, with settled dust, in need of cleaning ~ Expect varying elements relative to age, use and materials ~ The original stave body, binding bands, turned supports, and rockers remain present and intact.
