The painted metal frame, springs, wood platform, and handle show oxidation, fading, wear, and prolonged storage exposure. The surviving frame and suspension assembly may be suited for repair, upcycling, creative repurposing, or installation of a better preserved replacement horse or another compatible riding animal. Perhaps potential for imaginative staging as a nostalgic store display, theatrical prop, photography setting, garden feature, folk art project, or sculptural assemblage. Due to age, damage, and unknown structural integrity, this example should not be considered safe for use as a child’s riding toy. A large vintage child’s spring suspension rocking horse, estimated at approximately 40" long × 22" wide × 35" tall, constructed with a molded and hand painted horse body suspended by four heavy coil springs within a red painted tubular metal frame. A solid wood platform beneath the horse served as both a footrest and structural support. The spirited molded horse features a raised foreleg, black sculpted mane, expressive head, Western style red saddle, embossed saddle details, painted harness accents, and an unusual turned wood handle mounted vertically above the head. The combination of the overhead handle, wood platform, exposed spring suspension, and early molded body reflects the postwar development of American spring riding horses. Comparable Wonder Products and Blazon horses were produced in several sizes and configurations during the mid twentieth century. Published examples range from approximately 33" to 48" long and 29" to 37½" tall. No surviving maker’s label or molded identification has been located on this example, so the manufacturer cannot presently be confirmed.
