A pair of Canadian silver 50-cent coins, dated 1949 and 1951, struck in .800 fine silver. The obverse of each coin features the George VI uncrowned effigy, a design by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with the initials HP visible at the base of the neck. The legend reads GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX. The reverse depicts the Arms of Canada as proclaimed in 1921, a design by George Kruger-Gray, whose KG initials appear flanking the base of the crown. The reverse inscriptions include the denomination 50 CENTS, the country name CANADA, and the respective dates. These issues belong to the series minted after the removal of the Emperor of India title from the royal legend. Catalogued as KM# 45. Condition: Both coins are in very fine to extremely fine condition, showing moderate wear to the high relief areas of the King's hair and the heraldic details of the central shield. The 1949 specimen displays dark peripheral toning on the obverse and reverse. Both coins retain original mint lustre within the protected areas of the design. Surfaces exhibit scattered minor marks and bag marks consistent with a brief period in circulation. Edges are reeded.
