A pair of Canadian silver 50-cent coins dated 1940 and 1949. Struck in 80 per cent silver with reeded edges, both coins feature the bare-headed portrait of King George VI by Thomas Humphrey Paget, marked with the initials HP below the neck. The 1940 coin carries the obverse legend GEORGIVS VI D: G: REX ET IND: IMP:, whilst the 1949 coin features the revised legend GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX. The reverses display the 1921 Coat of Arms of Canada, designed by George Edward Kruger Gray and bearing the initials K.G at the base of the crown. Reverse legends include 50 CENTS and the date with CANADA at the base. Reference: KM 45 (1949 issue). Condition: Both coins are in circulated condition, exhibiting moderate wear to the high points of the portrait and the crest. They display a natural silver patina with darker toning present in the recessed areas of the design.
