This lot comprises two Canadian silver 50-cent coins dated 1940 and 1945. Struck in .800 fine silver, these coins feature the obverse portrait of King George VI facing left, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with initials HP at the base of the truncated neck. The obverse legend reads GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :. The reverse design by George Kruger Gray displays the 1921 Arms of Canada, consisting of a crowned shield supported by a lion holding the Union Flag and a unicorn holding a banner with fleurs-de-lis. The reverse inscriptions include 50 CENTS at the top and CANADA with the date at the bottom. Both pieces feature reeded edges. Condition: The coins exhibit silver-grey metal tones with wear consistent with circulation. Moderate smoothing is visible on the high points of the portrait and the heraldic details of the reverse shield and crown. Both pieces show minor contact marks and natural toning.
