A pair of Canadian silver 50-cent coins comprising examples dated 1944 and 1952. Both coins are struck in 80 per cent silver (.800 fineness). The obverse of each piece displays the bare-headed portrait of King George VI designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with initials HP present at the truncation of the neck. The 1944 coin features the obverse legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :, while the 1952 coin features the revised legend GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX. The reverse design for both years depicts the 1921 version of the Arms of Canada, featuring a crowned shield supported by a lion and a unicorn. Suggested reference (unverified): KM 37 (1944). Reference: KM 45 (1952). Condition: Both coins are in circulated condition. The 1944 example shows significant wear to the hair and shield details with dark overall toning. The 1952 example exhibits moderate wear with some remaining lustre in the fields and scattered dark surface spots.
