Title: Rounded Trees Before Blue Mountains and a Golden Field Technique: Oil on paper Measures: 13 x 9 inches (33.0 x 22.9 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with vivid coloration and thick, ridged impasto throughout the trees, field, and sky. No significant paint losses, tears, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a gilt faux-bamboo frame with segmented, rounded moldings, showing minor wear and variations in the gilded finish. Not examined out of the frame. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: An energetic rural landscape in vertical format, structured in stacked horizontal bands that lead the eye from the foreground up to a turbulent sky. At the bottom, a mound of curling bushes in emerald, lime, and yellow-green sits beside a fan of long, upward strokes in ochre, straw, and rust that suggest tall grasses bending in the wind. Above them, a broad wheat field sweeps across the center of the sheet in streaks of golden yellow and amber, crossed by short dark green dashes. In the middle ground, a row of trees with stacked, rounded crowns rises behind a hedge of billowing shrubs, the tallest tree at center towering above the rest, each form built from crescent-shaped strokes of green, chartreuse, and blue and edged in dark navy outlines. Behind them, a range of mountains in violet, cobalt, and lavender undulates across the canvas, and above, swirling white and cream clouds with blue contours drift through a sky of yellow, turquoise, and pale green streaks. The repeated curling marks, the dark contour lines, and the strong contrast of yellow against blue and violet give the whole scene a sense of wind and movement, reflecting the visual language of Post-Impressionist landscape painting.
