Title: Woman in a Blue Hat Seated by a Window Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 18 x 14 inches (45.7 x 35.6 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, saturated coloration and confident, fluid brushwork. The weave of the canvas is visible through the thinner passages of paint, while the white and colored outlines stand slightly raised. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a wide, dark black-brown wooden frame with a deep cove profile and a narrow copper-toned inner lip, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A seated woman shown in profile, turned toward the right, occupies the left and center of this vertical interior scene. She wears a wide-brimmed hat in sky blue, slate, and gray, trimmed with a white and crimson spiral ornament, and her hair falls in stripes of emerald and lime green. Her face combines a lavender and white profile, with red lips and a carefully lashed blue eye, and a second, frontal eye set within an angular white and orange plane, merging two viewpoints into one head. She sits in a red armchair, her shoulders draped in a coral garment dotted with orange, while bands of black, lavender, blue, and lime curve across her torso. Her hands rest at the lower edge, rendered in lilac with bright red fingernails and yellow scalloped cuffs, one hand at lower right holding what appears to be a folded sheet. Behind her, the room is divided into flat planes of vermilion, acid yellow, and brown with rays of golden ochre fanning across the top, while at right a window in turquoise and pale blue, its frame outlined in red, opens onto light. Loose white and pink contour lines trace nearly every form. The fusion of profile and frontal views, the flattened interior space, and the high-keyed palette reflect the visual language of twentieth-century Cubist and post-Cubist portraiture. The lower left bears a painted inscription reading "Picasso." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
