Title: Pale Blue Tree in a Golden Valley Beneath a Swirling Sky Technique: Oil on paper Measures: 8 x 12 inches (20.3 x 30.5 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with vivid coloration and dense, ridged impasto applied in long, rhythmic strokes across the entire surface. No significant paint losses, tears, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a gilt wooden frame with a stepped, rounded cove molding, showing minor wear and variations in the gilded finish. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A horizontal landscape dominated by the massive, twisting trunk of a pale blue tree that rises from the lower left and splits into bare, forking limbs reaching beyond the upper edge. The trunk is built from strokes of sky blue, powder blue, cream, and pale yellow, each contour reinforced with heavy navy lines that emphasize its sinuous, almost figural form. Behind it, a rolling valley in ochre, golden yellow, burnt sienna, and straw unfolds toward the horizon, its slopes traced with dark undulating lines and dotted with small rounded trees in olive and forest green. At right, a gnarled, dark brown and gray tree with clawing branches stands on a ridge, echoing the larger trunk in miniature. A band of lavender, white, and yellow mountains stretches across the distance, and above, a sky of cobalt, ultramarine, and light blue is animated by flowing, wave-like strokes that coil into a pronounced spiral just right of center. A dense green shrub fills the lower left corner. The rhythmic directional brushwork, dark outlines, and the strong contrast of blue against yellow reflect the visual language of Post-Impressionist landscape painting, giving the scene a restless, wind-swept energy. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading "Vincent," with further painted marks beneath it. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
