Title: Green Beetle Car on a Deep Blue Ground Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 13 x 9 inches (33.0 x 22.9 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with even, saturated coloration and visible, directional brushwork in the green body of the car and the blue ground. No significant losses, tears, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a brushed bronze-toned frame with a fine linear texture, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A single compact car, recognizable by its rounded, beetle-like silhouette, is presented in three-quarter view from the front, isolated against a flat field of deep navy and ultramarine blue. The body of the car is painted in mint and jade green with loose, hatched strokes, while its fenders, running boards, bumper, and hood ridges are picked out in creamy white highlights. A fine, sketchy red line traces the contours of the vehicle over the color, slightly offset from the painted shapes, so that drawing and color seem to sit on separate layers. The round headlamps are filled with pale lavender blue, and the windows are rendered in dark teal and navy, with a few red strokes suggesting the interior. A soft, dark blue shadow beneath the wheels grounds the car within the otherwise empty space. The choice of a mass-produced consumer object as the sole subject, the frontal, emblematic presentation, the flat background, and the misregistered outline recall the graphic vocabulary of Pop Art, here translated into a loose, hand-painted idiom.
