Title: Blue Irises in an Ochre Two-Handled Vase on a Yellow Ground Technique: Oil on paper Measures: 12.5 x 10 inches (31.8 x 25.4 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with vivid coloration and heavy, sculptural impasto, particularly in the blossoms, vase, and swirling background. No significant paint losses, tears, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in an ornate gilt frame with molded palmette and scroll ornament, a beaded inner border, and darkened recesses, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Gifted from the private collection of the Kim family in Seoul to their daughter’s private collection in Busan. Visual Description: A vibrant floral still life in vertical format, showing a bouquet of blue irises arranged in a rounded, two-handled vase set on a tabletop. The flowers fill the upper half of the composition, their ruffled petals built up in thick, curling strokes of cobalt, ultramarine, cerulean, and pale sky blue, touched with white and outlined in deep navy. Long, blade-like leaves in sage and forest green sweep outward to both sides, one arching across the right edge toward the table. The vase is painted in amber, ochre, and burnt orange with vertical striations and dark contour lines that emphasize its swelling body, flared foot, and looped handles. Behind it, the background is a field of saturated golden and marigold yellow animated by short, curving, directional strokes that circle around the bouquet like rays of light. The tabletop below is laid in horizontal bands of royal blue, white, and yellow, echoing the colors of the flowers and creating a lively, rippling base for the composition. The strong complementary contrast of blue against yellow, the dark outlines, and the textured, rhythmic brushwork reflect the visual language of Post-Impressionist still-life painting. The right side of the composition, beside the vase, bears a painted inscription reading "Vincent." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
