Title: Abstract Composition with Fish-Like Form, Suns, and Calligraphic Signs Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 11.5 x 8 inches (29.2 x 20.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in fair to good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with clear, saturated color in the painted shapes and crisp black linework. The tan paper support shows overall toning, scattered mottling, and an area of grayish discoloration near the lower center, along with a few small spots and minor surface irregularities consistent with age and handling. No significant tears or losses are apparent in the available images. Presented in a natural light oak wooden frame, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Inherited within the Almeida family of Lisbon and later transferred privately to a cousin in Porto. Visual Description: A lively abstract composition on a warm tan paper ground, organized around a large, pointed, fish- or bird-like form that rises diagonally through the center of the sheet. Its body is divided into flat segments of sky blue, black, coral red, and a soft gradient of orange, peach, and yellow, punctuated by a cluster of solid black discs and topped by a turquoise head with a red and black eye. Around it, smaller hybrid forms drift across the page: a crescent at upper left, a striped lozenge at left, and a target-like eye in red, green, orange, and yellow below center. A black ring enclosing a red disc hovers at the upper right like a sun, while concentric circles in turquoise and red, and in yellow and blue, float near the lower right. At the bottom right, a dome divided into emerald green, red, and black anchors the composition. Fine black lines, dotted contours, stick-like antennae ending in small dots, and a series of brushed calligraphic signs along both side edges thread the elements together and give the sheet a playful, musical rhythm. The biomorphic shapes, primary-color accents, and pictographic marks reflect the visual language of Surrealist abstraction. The lower left bears a painted inscription reading "Miró." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
