Title: Double-Faced Bust of a Woman Before Red Grids Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 27 x 20 inches (68.6 x 50.8 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, saturated coloration and clearly defined contours. The paint is applied in smooth, opaque passages alongside more textured, raised strokes in the striped and patterned areas. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a black frame with gold-toned inner and outer moldings and applied gilt scrollwork ornaments at the top, bottom, and sides, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A boldly stylized bust of a woman set against a flat lime-green ground, with two panels of red grid lines over pale sky blue occupying the upper left and upper right corners. The head is composed of two overlapping faces: a yellow profile, outlined in dark green and crowned with blue and yellow striped hair, tilts toward the upper left, while a frontal red-orange face beneath it gazes outward with a single large, lashed blue eye and pink lips. A crimson and rose sphere swells behind the heads at left, and a band of black and white stripes curves around the right side like a collar or headdress. Below, the torso is reduced to sweeping, rounded forms: a blue striped oval and a pink and burgundy striped triangle suggest the chest, while broad arcs of ochre, golden yellow, and soft gray describe folded arms resting along the lower edge. Heavy black contour lines bind the composition together, and the repeated stripes and grids set up a strong decorative rhythm against the smooth color fields. The fusion of profile and frontal views, the simplified anatomy, and the high-keyed palette reflect the visual language of twentieth-century Cubist and post-Cubist portraiture. The upper left bears a painted inscription reading "Picasso." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
