This lot features two vintage washboards and a galvanised metal wash bucket, produced by The Canadian Woodenware Co. of St. Thomas, Ontario. The first washboard, model Ideal, is constructed with a solid wood frame and a corrugated metal scrubbing surface. It is stamped in black ink: IDEAL / MANUFACTURED BY / CANADIAN WOODENWARE / CO. / WINNIPEG ST. THOMAS MONTREAL. The second washboard, model Pearl, consists of a solid wood frame housing a spiral-ribbed glass scrubbing surface. It bears a matching maker mark: PEARL / MANUFACTURED BY / CANADIAN WOODENWARE / CO. / WINNIPEG ST. THOMAS MONTREAL. The utility bucket is made of galvanised metal and features a distressed red painted exterior finish. Included with the set is a metal laundry rod with a wrapped handle, traditionally used as a copper stick or agitator. Dimensions (from visible tape, only inches shown): Washboards approx. H 47 cm x W 32 cm; Bucket approx. Diameter 33 cm. Condition: The wood frames of the washboards show age-related darkening, staining, and wear consistent with domestic utility use. The metal scrubbing surface on the Ideal model exhibits oxidation and surface wear. The glass surface on the Pearl model appears intact with no visible chips or cracks. The galvanised bucket shows significant distress to the red paint, including widespread chipping and loss. There is a visible puncture hole on the side of the bucket, and the interior displays heavy residue and wear consistent with its age and purpose.
