This collection of mid-20th-century professional and domestic measuring equipment includes a shoe store fitting stool, a Brannock Device, and dressmaking tools. The shoe store fitting stool is built with a wooden top and four twisted wrought iron legs. The top is partially upholstered in a green grained vinyl secured by brass tacks, leading to a sloping wooden footrest with an inset brown ribbed rubber tread. The professional foot measuring instrument, manufactured by The Brannock Device Co. of Syracuse, N.Y., is made of cast metal and is marked as being specially designed and calibrated for the correct fitting of women's style shoes. It incorporates calibrated scales for right and left toe length, arch length, and a sliding width scale ranging from 3A to E. Also included are two wooden Dritz skirt markers featuring nickel-plated steel hardware stamped with the Pin-It trademark for marking hemlines. The wooden rulers are graduated in inches up to 25 inches. Stool height: approx. 14 inches Brannock Device length: approx. 13 inches Skirt marker length: 25 inches. Condition: The fitting stool shows considerable wear consistent with age and use, including scuffing and discolouration to the vinyl, wear and losses to the wooden edges, and oxidation on the wrought iron legs. The Brannock Device and skirt markers show surface wear, minor scratches, and oxidation to the metal components.
