AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial hand decorated pottery plate by The Potting Shed, measuring 10.5" in diameter and weighing a solid 2.25 lbs. The plate is finished in the firm’s characteristic intentional crackle glaze, creating a dense network of fine crazing throughout the cream colored surface. Decoration is executed in cobalt blue, with a broad sponged circular band surrounding the center and a lively border of stylized rabbits arranged around the scalloped rim, accented with small abstract blue motifs. The underside is marked with the firm’s five point star, decorator initials, 98 U.S.A., and production code D30. The Potting Shed became known for hand decorated American pottery with blue and white decoration and a distinctive crackle glazed surface. The extensive crazing visible throughout this example is an inherent characteristic of the glaze and production method, rather than later damage.
