AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A matched pair of substantial cast Mid Century Modern chalkware wall plaques, each measuring 5.5" in diameter, around 1/4" thick, and weighing 8 oz each. Each circular plaque features a deeply textured black vertical ground in the manner of wood grain, creating a dramatic backdrop for a raised white heron rendered in bold relief. The birds are accented by stylized gold marsh foliage and reeds, producing the strong black, white and gold contrast so closely associated with mid-century decorative design. The cast construction is notably substantial, with the herons, legs, surrounding foliage and border all projecting prominently from the surface rather than being simply painted decoration. The two birds are posed differently, giving the pair a complementary presentation when displayed together. Herons are iconic birds of the Louisiana and Gulf South wetlands, making the imagery especially evocative of Southern marsh and bayou landscapes. While Louisiana’s official state bird is the Brown Pelican, white herons and related wading birds remain among the most recognizable visual symbols of the region. The reverse sides retain hanging hardware for vertical wall display. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered.
