AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A charming 11-piece grouping of documented American juvenile china, combining a Harker Pottery Cameoware child’s plate with a 10-piece Edwin M. Knowles juvenile tea service decorated with blue Dutch children. 1 Example HARKER POTTERY CAMEOWARE CHILD’S PLATE > Measuring 7.25" in diameter, the blue plate features a whimsical goat pull-toy or goat cart motif in contrasting cream decoration. Harker Pottery is well documented for producing children’s dishes as part of the Cameoware line, including playful animal and toy motifs. The International Museum of Dinnerware Design documents Harker Cameoware child’s plates with this type of goat pull-toy decoration dating to around 1945. Harker Pottery was a longstanding American ceramics manufacturer associated with the East Liverpool pottery district. 10 Piece EDWIN M. KNOWLES JUVENILE TEA SERVICE > A 10-piece diminutive child’s tea service consisting of 1 teapot, 1 creamer, 1 sugar bowl, 3 cups and 4 saucers. The cream colored ware is decorated throughout in cobalt blue with a Dutch boy and girl scene. This Dutch children decoration is associated with Edwin M. Knowles juvenile china and appears consistently across the matching tea pieces in this group. The saucers are marked to the underside EDWIN M. KNOWLES CHINA CO. ~ MADE IN U.S.A. beneath the company’s SEMI VITREOUS urn mark. Together, the two makers represent the period when American potteries produced scaled-down ceramic tableware specifically for children. The Harker goat-cart plate is a separate Cameoware piece, while the Knowles Dutch children tea service forms the matching 10-piece set. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered. The Harker Cameoware plate exhibits areas of glaze crazing with some associated small glaze chips or losses. One Edwin M. Knowles cup has a vertical hairline crack extending from the rim. Remaining pieces exhibit age, specific to a degree of glaze crazing, along with use consistent with vintage juvenile china.
