AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial handmade studio pottery flower frog, measuring 7.5" in diameter, standing 2.5" tall, and weighing an impressive 1.5 lbs. The low rounded form is pierced across the top with numerous flower openings of varying sizes, intended to support stems for floral arrangements. The surface is finished in a richly mottled blue drip glaze over darker green, brown and earthy tones, with heavier glaze pooling around the openings and flowing across the rounded body. The piece rests on three raised feet, while the underside is largely unglazed and displays the natural clay body. A hand incised style maker's mark is positioned near the center of the underside, appearing to include the letter "S" and "I" or perhaps a letter "T". The broad pillow form, considerable weight and layered glaze treatment give the piece strong sculptural appeal even when displayed without flowers. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered. Exhibits the glaze variation, surface texture and handmade characteristics associated with studio pottery.
