AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial studio art pottery vessel by Debbie Corley of DC Pottery, Knoxville, Tennessee, standing 3.5" tall, measuring just over 5" in diameter across the broad flange rim, and weighing a solid 1 lb. The low cylindrical form is finished with a wide flared rim and a richly layered surface combining earthy red, copper, green, blue and smoky tones. The glaze treatment produces an intentionally varied, almost metallic appearance with areas of pooling, flashing, pitting and textured surface interest. The underside carries the hand incised initials DC, identifying the work of Debbie Corley. Corley has worked in clay since 2004 and creates mostly wheel thrown pottery, while also incorporating hand built work. Her studio focuses on functional and decorative pieces inspired by the natural world, including seasonal landscapes, florals, shoreline imagery and organic textures. She is also a member of Terra Madre, a Knoxville based all female pottery group, and exhibits through the Art Market Gallery in downtown Knoxville. DC Pottery describes Corley’s work as small batch and individually made, with surface decoration created through carving, hand painting, layered underglazes and decals. Her Soda Fired Limited Collection is specifically described as a group of one of a kind pieces that changes from firing to firing, which fits the highly individual surface character seen here. A strong example of contemporary Southern studio pottery with substantial weight, expressive glaze movement and a distinctive handmade form. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered. Exhibits the intentional irregularities, glaze variation and surface texture inherent to handmade studio pottery.
