AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A substantial wheel thrown studio pottery vessel by Debbie Corley of DC Pottery, Knoxville, Tennessee, standing just over 3" tall, measuring around 5.5" in diameter across the shoulder, and weighing an impressive 1.5 lbs. The rounded low form carries a broad rolled rim and a richly layered blue glaze treatment with darker plum, brown and smoky accents breaking through the surface. The finish has intentional variation, including mottling, small pinhole textures and areas where the darker clay and glaze tones interact to create depth across the body and interior. The underside is hand incised DC. Corley describes her work as primarily wheel thrown functional pottery, with surface decoration created through carving, hand painting and layered underglazes and decals. Her collections are inspired by the natural world, including seashores, seasonal landscapes, florals and organic textures. This piece does not correspond closely with the soda fired examples currently shown on the DC Pottery website. Corley’s site separates the Soda Fired Limited Collection from her other glaze and surface collections, and this example is better presented simply as a richly glazed studio art vessel rather than assigning a firing method that is not established. The unusually stout 1.5 lb weight gives the compact form considerable presence and emphasizes the substantial handmade construction. CONDITION REPORT > As discovered, not cleaned or altered. Exhibits intentional glaze variation, pinholing, mottling and surface texture characteristic of handmade studio pottery.
