Andy Warhol (American, 1928–1987), Cow — Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris Exhibition Poster, 1970. Printed on a substantial, heavy wove paper stock, noticeably heavier than typical poster paper. Sheet Size: 27.25 x 19.75 inches. A striking vintage Andy Warhol exhibition poster featuring the artist's celebrated Cow image, produced for his exhibition at the Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris / ARC, held December 16, 1970–January 14, 1971. The exhibition is documented in the museums own archives, which notably record that Warhol created a room specifically for Paris devoted entirely to the repeated cow image, transforming the subject into an immersive wallpaper installation. The poster presents Warhol's monumental cow in black and cream against a muted blue ground. The lower panel bears the museum and artist identification, exhibition dates, ARC emblem, and the printer's credit Imprimerie Mazarine - Paris. Published by the Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris and printed in Paris by Imprimerie Mazarine, this poster is associated with the museums important 1970 Warhol exhibition—identified by the museum as Warhols first museum exhibition in Paris. Period examples are recorded as approximately 66 x 47 cm and as an unlimited edition. This is an authentic period exhibition poster after Andy Warhol, rather than one of the larger 1966 Cow wallpaper sheets. A specialist vintage-poster dealer likewise identifies the 1970 issue as an original period poster produced for the Musée d'Art Moderne exhibition and printed by Imprimerie Mazarine. Condition: Good vintage condition overall. The sheet displays age-appropriate toning, handling wear, scattered surface marks and soiling, minor edge wear, light creasing/waviness, and localized abrasions or surface disturbances visible within the blue field. The upper edge shows some curvature/curling. Colors remain attractive and the printed image and exhibition typography retain strong visual presence. No obvious major tears or substantial losses. Please be sure and view all photos. This auction house considers the photos to be the condition report. Provenance: From the private estate of a decades-long collector who resided in Paris and New York. His family is now liquidating a portion of the collection.
