Marvin Chico Posey, Jr. (1964–2003), New York Celebration, Signed Print with Personal Inscription Sight: 24 x 17.5 in. Frame: 35 x 29 in. Color print after an original composition by Marvin Chico Posey, Jr. (American, 1964–2003), presenting an exuberant celebration of New York City, music, and American popular culture. The densely layered composition incorporates the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan skyline, fireworks, sweeping piano keys, violinist, guitarist and urban street scenes in Poseys distinctive, highly saturated palette. Posey was particularly associated with music and jazz imagery and became known as a performance artist who painted before audiences while listening to live music. His work was exhibited nationally, and contemporary biographical accounts note displays at Regency Fine Art in Atlanta and Sambuca Jazz Cafe locations. Signed Posey within the image at lower right. Accompanied by a handwritten note on Regency Fine Art stationery personally inscribed and signed by the artist: To The Petters with Best wishes! Enjoy the 7-11 Celebration. Your friend Marvin Posey. The personal inscription provides an appealing direct association with Posey and appears to relate the composition to a specific 7-11 Celebration. The image itself also incorporates the word ELEVEN into the upper-right skyline. Condition: Very good overall condition. Artwork presents well under glass with strong, vibrant color. Minor surface/age characteristics visible. Frame exhibits scattered light wear consistent with age and handling. Verso backing paper has tears, punctures and general wear. Not examined out of frame. Personalized handwritten and signed Posey note accompanies the work. Please be sure and view all photos. This auction house considers the photos as the condition report.
