Itzchak Tarkay (1935–2012), Time to Talk, 2005, Original Watercolor & Mixed Media. An original mixed-media watercolor and drawing on wove paper by Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay (1935–2012), titled Time to Talk, created in 2005. This is a unique work. The composition depicts an intimate interior gathering rendered in Tarkays immediately recognizable figurative style. Two elegantly dressed women dominate the foreground, seated casually around a table set with teacups, fruit, a pitcher, and a leafy potted plant, while two additional figures converse in the background. A sleeping cat stretched across a patterned rug provides a particularly charming detail. Tarkay combines delicate black linework with transparent washes of blue, lavender, green, orange, yellow, and gray, giving the scene the relaxed sophistication and café-society atmosphere for which his work is known. Executed in watercolor, drawing and mixed media on wove paper, the work is signed in ink at the lower right. The accompanying Park West Gallery Certificate of Authenticity identifies the work as Time to Talk, registration no. 155213.0014, and specifically describes it as A unique work. One of a series of watercolors by Tarkay depicting variations on this visual theme. The provenance is unusually well documented. The original Park West invoice shows the work was purchased at auction in 2007 for a $3,900 hammer price plus $585 buyer’s premium, or $4,485 including premium. Park West subsequently issued a 2014 retail replacement appraisal of $6,570 including the frame. The original Certificate of Authenticity, purchase invoice, and appraisal accompany the artwork. This worldwide selling artist's work has certainly appreciated since 2014. Presented under glass with wide white matting and gilt liners in an ornate black and gilt frame.
