Equestrian Figure of Napoleon Bonaparte. Patinated bronze on stepped architectural plinth with marble base. 25H x 18W x 19D inches. Condition: Very good appearance with minor wear. A distinguished patinated bronze equestrian figure depicting Napoleon Bonaparte, shown in calm procession astride a standing horse, wearing his iconic bicorne hat and military cloak draped elegantly across the saddle. The composition draws upon the great 19th-century French tradition of Imperial portrait sculpture, evoking the neoclassical grandeur associated with the Napoleonic era. The emperor is rendered with poised authority, seated upright with reins in hand, his cape cascading in deeply modeled folds that create a strong vertical rhythm against the horse’s powerful musculature. The mount itself is beautifully observed, with finely articulated neck, chest, and hindquarters, standing in controlled readiness atop a textured naturalistic ground. Particularly appealing is the architectural stepped plinth, embellished with decorative mounts at the corners and finished in a rich warm bronze tone, all raised on a contrasting black marble base.
