NAVAJO (DINÉ) WOVEN RUG. Southwestern United States, likely mid–20th century. Approx. 35 x 24.5 inches. A finely handwoven Navajo textile of classic banded design, executed in a restrained and harmonious palette of natural greys, soft browns, muted ochres, and pale blues. The composition features alternating horizontal bands enriched with repeating geometric motifs, including stylized waterbug and stepped diamond elements—design forms commonly associated with Navajo weaving traditions . The rug displays a balanced, borderless field characteristic of regional Navajo weavings produced for the trading post market in the 20th century, where banded geometric arrangements and subtle vegetal tones became especially favored . The overall aesthetic reflects the enduring Diné weaving tradition, in which design, material, and craftsmanship are deeply tied to cultural identity and artistic expression . Age: Based on the materials, palette, and weaving style, this example is best placed in the mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1960s). The use of softer commercial dyes combined with traditional geometric banding is typical of Navajo rugs produced during this period for the broader market .Condition: Overall very good vintage condition consistent with age and use. Visible surface wear and light soiling commensurate with use. Minor fiber loss and scattered thinning in areas Edge wear with some fraying and loss to corner tassels. The rug remains structurally sound and presents attractively. Please view all photos carefully for condition. Provenance: From the estate of an international equine sales executive based in Georgia. She had a home of beautiful art. She was a lifelong equestrian, maintained a passion for animals. At her passing she owned four horses and six dogs.
