P. J. Mene (1810–1879) Two Terriers Bronze Sculpture. French animalier sculptor P. J. Mêne cast bronze depicting two alert terriers in a lively hunting composition atop a naturalistic oval base. Signed P.J. MENE in the bronze and mounted on a shaped black metal display base with engraved title plaque. A classic example of Menes celebrated animalier sculpture, capturing the energy and realism for which his works are renowned. Dimensions: Overall: 10.5 height x 7.25 width x 13 depth inches. Sculpture: 9 height x 4.5 width x 9.25 depth inches. Age: Late nineteenth to early twentieth century cast, after the original model by P. J. Mêne. Condition: Good overall presentation with an attractive dark patina. Light surface wear, scattered rubbing to high points, and minor handling marks consistent with age and use. Metal display base exhibits expected wear, scratches, and finish loss. This auction house considers the photographs to be the condition report. Provenance: From the private collection of a third-generation collector with a lifelong passion for art, rare coins, and collectibles. Assembled over decades, the collection reflects a discerning eye for quality and has been meticulously preserved in climate-controlled conditions.
