RCBS 264 Neck Expander Die 39811 with Plug

An RCBS neck expander die for 264 caliber, part number 39811, in the green RCBS box. The label has 308 added by hand in blue marker. The die body is stamped EXP BODY 11 and is fitted with an expander plug marked 264. A second loose expander plug is in the box. A neck expander die is a specialty tool that opens a case neck up to a larger caliber, which is how a handloader forms wildcat and obsolete brass from cases that are easy to find. Running a 264 plug through a 6mm neck, for example, is a step toward 6.5mm-06 brass. Because the body takes interchangeable plugs, one die covers several jobs. Used carefully with plenty of neck lube it opens brass without collapsing the shoulder. Expanding is always done in small steps with the shoulder supported, and a second plug in the box means a buyer has more than one step available. Condition is very good. The die body is bright with clean threads and light handling marks and no rust. The green box shows shelf wear with a soiled label and handwriting in marker.
