A collection of early photography comprising two mid-19th century cased portraits and two larger silver gelatin prints. The cased works include a portrait of a young man with hand-tinted highlights to the cheeks, possibly an ambrotype or daguerreotype, housed in a leatherette case with an octagonal brass mat and red velvet interior pad. The second cased item depicts a woman and child, presented behind an ornate floral-patterned brass mat in a similar embossed case. The larger pieces consist of a silver gelatin print portrait of a young man in a military-style cadet uniform holding a swagger stick, mounted on dark card, and a framed and matted silver gelatin print depicting two children and a large dog in a farmyard setting with a vintage motor vehicle in the background. Framed photograph: approx. H 24 cm x W 19.5 cm Mounted cadet photograph: approx. H 18.5 cm x W 15.5 cm Cased photographs (closed): approx. H 9.5 cm x W 8.5 cm Measured against a ruler. Condition: The collection exhibits general age-related wear. One portrait case has a detached lid, and both cases show rubbing, scuffing, and wear to the leatherette surfaces and corners. The cased portraits show minor dust and oxidation visible under the glass. The mounted silver gelatin print of the cadet has significant water staining and discolouration to the reverse of the card mount, though the image itself remains largely unaffected. The framed farmyard scene shows tearing and paper losses to the reverse backing paper. General age-toning and minor surface marks are present across all mounts and prints.
