This lot comprises two antique miniature books. The first is a children's story titled The Dolls' Surprise Party, authored by Aunt Laura and published in Buffalo by Breed, Butler and Co. in 1863. This volume is bound in black textured cloth featuring a gilt-stamped decorative border and a central circular gilt title to the front board reading DOLL'S PARTY. The second item is a miniature daily devotional volume, bound in red cloth with a central gilt-stamped floral spray and blind-stamped decorative borders. The interior contains daily scripture verses, with visible pages showing the entries for January 1st to 3rd, featuring texts from Psalm 119 and 1 John 3. Dimensions measured against a ruler: Red volume height: approx. 5.4 cm Black volume height: approx. 4.1 cm. Condition: Both volumes show signs of age-related wear and handling. The cloth bindings exhibit rubbing to the extremities and corners, with minor loss to the gilt-stamped decoration. There is a small area of wear to the cloth at the tail of the spine on the black volume. The interior paper shows general toning and light foxing throughout. The bindings appear sound.
