Snapshot Souvenir Photographs

A group of two original boxed souvenir photograph sets published by Valentine and Sons Ltd., Dundee and London. Each set, titled Valentine's Snapshots, contains twelve real black and white photographs. The first set, Edinburgh (Series A), features various landmarks and historic views of the Scottish capital, including Edinburgh Castle, the Scott Monument, and the Royal Mile. The second set, titled Land of Burns, focuses on sites and monuments associated with Robert Burns, including a portrait of the poet, Burns' Cottage, the Auld Brig o' Ayr, and statues of Tam o' Shanter and Souter Johnnie. The reverse of several photographs contains handwritten pencil inscriptions identifying the subjects, such as Edinburgh Castle and National Gallery and Auld Brig O' Ayr. The card boxes are printed with the series titles, the original retail price of one shilling (1/-), and the statement 12 Real Photographs for your Album. Box width: approximately 7.8 cm (read from scale in image) Photograph width: approximately 8.0 cm (read from scale in image). Condition: The original card boxes exhibit typical age-related wear, including minor scuffing, edge wear, and light creasing to the corners. The photographs are in good condition overall, showing some natural silvering to the darker tones and a slight curl consistent with the age of the photographic paper. There are pencil inscriptions on the reverse of at least two photographs.
