A hand-painted ceramic character plate produced by Royal Doulton, titled The Old Balloon Seller. This piece was issued in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original figure design by Leslie Harradine. The plate features a high-relief depiction of an elderly woman seated with a large bunch of colorful balloons. The scene is set in London's Piccadilly Circus, showing detailed architectural elements including the London Pavilion, the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain with the statue of Eros, a vintage double-decker bus, and pigeons on a cobblestone street. The reverse bears a green printed backstamp with the Royal Doulton logo, the pattern number D 6649, and a descriptive text identifying the modeller as William K. Harper. The item is accompanied by its original yellow and white presentation box decorated with a sepia-toned street scene. Diameter approx. 26 cm. Condition: The plate is in excellent condition with no observed chips, cracks, crazing, or restoration. The hand-painted colors are bright and well-preserved. The original presentation box shows minor shelf wear and light scuffing to the corners and edges.
