A 90 percent silver Washington quarter from the Denver Mint, the D clear on the reverse below the wreath. This one is essentially uncirculated. The hair curls, the ribbon and the neck detail are full, the eagle's breast and leg feathers are complete, and there is no break at the wear points. Frosty white luster with light golden-brown toning across the obverse and around the reverse rim, plus a few contact ticks in the fields. No signs of cleaning. The coin holds 0.1808 troy ounces of pure silver, roughly $11.95 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. 1964 was the last year of 90 percent silver in the quarter, and the Mint kept striking 1964-dated coins into 1966 to fight a nationwide coin shortage, which is why so many survive in high grade. The flip is marked BU by the consignor. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Estimated Value: $13 to $18. Sold as-is.
