A hand-engraved love token on a dime-sized disc, worked on both faces. One side carries the script name Bess with flourishes, the other Tom in the same hand. Both original coin faces have been planed completely smooth. No portrait, no wreath, no legend, no denomination and no date survive anywhere, and only the beaded border remains on the Bess side. Because both faces were planed off, the host coin cannot be proven from the photographs. The flip calls it a Seated dime and the size is right, but nothing survives to confirm the type, date or metal content, so we do not claim it and quote no melt value. The engraving is crisp with no wear through the letters. Fields are lightly hairlined from the smoothing, normal on a love token. The rim is round, with no corrosion, glue, solder, mount or hole. Love tokens were a Victorian courtship gift, and one naming both sweethearts is the scarcer form. Estimated Value: Comparable sales data was not available.
