A 90 percent silver Washington quarter from Philadelphia. The mint mark spot on the reverse, below the wreath between QUARTER and DOLLAR, is in focus and empty. The coin runs from lightly circulated to about uncirculated. The hair curls and ribbon keep most detail with only a light rub on the cheekbone, and the eagle's breast is slightly flat while the leg and wing feathers are complete. Light grey-white with pale golden toning across the obverse and scattered small ticks. No corrosion, no sign of cleaning. The coin holds 0.1808 troy ounces of pure silver, roughly $11.95 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, so check spot before you bid. Philadelphia put no mint mark at all on the quarter until 1980, so an empty spot is not a missing letter, it is the Philadelphia coin. The flip is marked BU by the consignor, which reads a little generous for a coin with a light high point rub. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Estimated Value: $12 to $16. Sold as-is.
