Ceramic fish planter marked by Lefton. Modeled upright in a rounded pan fish shape with an open back for soil or flowers, standing on its tail and lower fins. Soft matte bisque finish, airbrushed in tan, rust, and reddish brown stripes, textured scale pattern, blue tipped dorsal and tail fins. Large round white and black painted eyes, open mouth. About four and a half inches tall. The underside carries the Lefton mark hand painted in green script, and beside it is an orange tan glue patch where the original foil sticker used to be. Condition is good. There is dark spotting and old dirt inside the open back and on the bottoms of the fins where it sat, along with light staining on the underside, but no chips or cracks in the photos. The hand painted green script is one of the earlier Lefton marks. Figural fish planters have a following with Lefton collectors and mid century decor buyers. Authenticity has not been verified by Crawford Auction Service. Estimated Value: $20 to $40 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
