Substantial 7" tall x 4" wide metal bell with a heavy, thick-walled body and distinctive tall open geometric V-shaped handle. The bell has a deep brown/bronze-toned surface with visible patina, oxidation, scratches and wear consistent with age and use. Its simple cylindrical body, rounded shoulder and architectural handle give it an unusual utilitarian or ceremonial appearance. The exact origin and age are unknown. Similar cast bronze bells with geometric or architectural suspension handles are found across a number of Asian and European traditions, so we cannot attribute this one to a specific country, culture or period without markings or provenance. Measures approximately 7" tall x 4" wide. Heavy construction with an aged surface and attractive patina. An unusual addition to a bell, folk-art, metalware or ethnographic collection. See photos for details.
