"Tracy Kavena" Signed Hopi Polychrome Pottery Jar

Signed Tracy Kavena Hopi polychrome pottery jar, measuring approximately 4.5" tall x 5.5" wide. The underside is hand signed “Tracy Kavena / Hopi,” identifying the vessel as the work of Hopi potter Tracy Kavena. Kavena is a documented Hopi pottery artist whose work has appeared in major and regional auction catalogs. Historical records from 1990 describe her demonstrating traditional Hopi pottery making and teaching a traditional pottery class, adding useful documented context to her work. Examples of her signed Hopi pottery continue to appear on the secondary market, including a polychrome bowl offered by Heritage Auctions in 2025. This hand-crafted vessel features a rounded body with a gracefully flared rim and a striking polychrome geometric composition in black, reddish-orange and warm earth tones against a cream/tan ground. Bold curvilinear and angular forms are divided by fine parallel lines and dark horizontal bands, creating a dramatic wraparound design associated with the visual tradition of Hopi Pueblo pottery. A beautiful collectible example of signed Hopi ceramic art, well suited for collectors of Native American pottery, Pueblo ceramics, Southwestern art, Indigenous pottery and signed American Indian artwork. Measures approximately 4.5" H x 5.5" W. Preowned condition with light surface wear and minor imperfections consistent with age and handling. The artist's signature remains visible on the underside.
