1890-O Morgan Silver Dollar, struck at the New Orleans Mint. This classic late-19th-century U.S. silver dollar is a popular issue among Morgan Dollar collectors, with particular interest in well-preserved examples. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Morgan Dollar was designed by George T. Morgan and was first introduced in 1878. The obverse features Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, while the reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and an olive branch. The 1890-O had a mintage of 10,701,000 coins. Despite the sizable mintage, the issue is considerably scarcer in higher Mint State grades. PCGS's current price guide reflects a substantial premium for higher-grade examples. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs 26.73 grams, and contains approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The “O” mint mark identifies it as a New Orleans Mint issue. The 1890-O also has recognized collectible varieties, including the VAM-5 Doubled 9 variety.
