1859 Seated Liberty Dime, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This classic 19th-century U.S. silver dime is a popular early issue from the Seated Liberty series and an excellent example of historic American coinage. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Seated Liberty Dime was designed by Christian Gobrecht and features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a liberty pole and shield on the obverse. The reverse displays the denomination “ONE DIME” surrounded by a wreath. The 1859 Philadelphia issue had a mintage of 430,400 coins, making it a notably low-mintage date. Philadelphia Mint examples carry no mint mark. The coin was struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighs approximately 2.67 grams, and measures about 17.9 mm in diameter with a reeded edge.
