1918-D Buffalo Nickel, struck at the Denver Mint. This early Buffalo Nickel is a desirable date-and-mint issue for collectors building a complete Buffalo Nickel collection. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Buffalo Nickel was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser and was introduced in 1913. The obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound. The 1918-D had a mintage of 8,362,000 coins. The issue is considerably scarcer than the Philadelphia-minted 1918 Buffalo Nickel and is particularly challenging to find in higher grades. Like many Denver Buffalo Nickels, examples can exhibit weak striking in portions of the design. The coin was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighs approximately 5.00 grams, measures about 21.2 mm in diameter, and has a plain edge. The “D” mint mark appears on the reverse below the denomination.
