1916-S Buffalo Nickel, struck at the San Francisco Mint. This early Buffalo Nickel is a desirable issue for collectors, particularly in higher grades, and is an important date-and-mint example from the series. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Buffalo Nickel was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser and was introduced in 1913. The obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound. The 1916-S had a mintage of 11,860,000 coins. The issue is considerably scarcer than the Philadelphia-minted 1916 and is especially challenging to find in well-preserved condition. The “S” mint mark appears on the reverse below the denomination.
