1917-D Buffalo Nickel, struck at the Denver Mint. This early Buffalo Nickel is a desirable date-and-mint issue for collectors building a complete Buffalo Nickel collection. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Buffalo Nickel was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser and was introduced in 1913. The obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound. The 1917-D had a mintage of 7,800,000 coins, making it considerably scarcer than the Philadelphia issue of the same year. Early Denver Buffalo Nickels can be particularly challenging to find with strong detail and attractive surfaces.
