1923-P Buffalo Nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This classic Buffalo Nickel is a popular issue from the 1920s and a great addition for collectors building a date set or complete Buffalo Nickel collection. Please review the photos for the exact condition, surfaces, strike, and overall appearance. The Buffalo Nickel was designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser and introduced in 1913. The obverse features a Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a raised mound. The 1923 Philadelphia issue had a mintage of 30,675,000 coins. Philadelphia Mint examples carry no mint mark. Like other Buffalo Nickels, the coin was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighs approximately 5.00 grams, and measures about 21.2 mm in diameter. Buffalo Nickels are well known for their distinctive designs and the tendency for the date and lettering to wear with circulation, making examples with strong original detail especially desirable to collectors.
