Locan - Oil on Canvas

Updated August 18, 2026

This oil on canvas painting depicts a rustic interior scene featuring a woman in a white blouse and blue skirt engaged in domestic work at a wooden tub. To her right is a large stone hearth containing a glowing fire. The work is executed with expressive brushwork and impasto highlights, particularly within the flames and the folds of the woman's clothing. The painting is signed LOCAN in the lower-left corner. It is housed in a deep, ornate giltwood and composition frame decorated with foliate and scroll motifs. The reverse shows the original canvas on a keyed wooden stretcher. Approximate dimensions (measured against a tape measure): Frame H 76 cm x W 61 cm; Sight H 53 cm x W 38 cm. Condition: The painting exhibits generalised craquelure and a layer of accumulated surface dirt. The frame shows minor wear and small losses to the gilded finish consistent with age.
