An Impressionistic river landscape painting executed in oil on canvas, depicting a tranquil scene with a small weir or waterfall. The composition is set against a backdrop of dense woodland, with the movement of the water captured through broken brushwork and dabs of light colour. The artist has used impasto highlights to suggest the texture of flowing water. The canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher with corner keys and is housed within a slim, gilded wooden frame. The reverse of the work shows a plain canvas support with some remnants of old adhesive tape to the frame. Dimensions: H 52.1 cm x W 39.4 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The painting exhibits a small puncture hole to the upper centre and a patch of paint loss with flaking to the lower right foreground. There is an overall accumulation of surface dirt and fine craquelure across the paint layer. The frame shows minor scuffing and light losses to the gilded finish. The reverse shows aged canvas with minor staining and remnants of old adhesive tape.
