AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Group of five vintage cast metal toy vehicles and accessories, primarily Tootsietoy examples dating to the 1950s. Four pieces are marked TOOTSIETOY ~ MADE IN U.S.A. beneath the bodies. The unmarked red hardtop sedan is attributed to Tootsietoy based upon the recognizable casting and construction. Included are the following > TOOTSIETOY 1950 PONTIAC SEDAN Unmarked red four door hardtop with a rounded postwar body, long hood, projecting rear fenders and molded bumper details. Attributed to Tootsietoy. TOOTSIETOY PICKUP TRUCK Conventional cab pickup with an open ribbed cargo bed, retaining areas of yellow paint beneath a heavily worn silver colored surface. TOOTSIETOY SPORTS CAR Small red racing or sports car with a low profile, contrasting dark roof section and exposed rear engine detail. TOOTSIETOY FIRE TRUCK Red fire service vehicle with a forward cab and open rear equipment body divided into molded compartments. TOOTSIETOY U.S. ARMY UTILITY TRAILER Brown single axle cargo trailer with an extended towing tongue, open box body and green roundel bearing a white military star. The Tootsietoy name was used by Dowst Manufacturing Company of Chicago, an important early American producer of die cast miniature vehicles. Its durable zinc alloy cars, trucks and accessories were widely sold as play toys rather than precision scale models, accounting for the substantial construction and simplified automotive details represented throughout this group.
